Stroke: The Cholesterol Connection

Description: 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.
$15 cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride, and glucose tests (eight-hour fasting required); free blood pressure screenings

High cholesterol is a major risk factor for stroke. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, blocking normal blood flow to the brain, which can lead to a stroke. Lower your risk of having a stroke by keeping your cholesterol numbers within range. Join us to learn how. Light breakfast provided.

Condensed Prepared Childbirth Classes - 2 Evenings

Description: Mondays October 4 and 11, 2010
An intensive, seven-hours of prepared childbirth over two evenings. Includes abbreviated content of the Prepared Childbirth 4-week Series. Maternity unit tour included. Plan to finish class within a month of your due date.

Diabetes Education at Capital Health – Day Course

Description: This two-day comprehensive diabetes program, taught by a multidisciplinary staff, empowers individuals to successfully manage their diabetes. The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Lunch provided. Physician referral required. Call 609-896-5972 to register.

Prepared Childbirth 4-Week Series

Description: Tuesdays, October 5 - November 2, 2010 (no class October 12)
This series consists of four weekly two-hour classes to prepare the expectant woman and her partner(s) for the birth experience. Includes: prenatal exercises, labor and birth, Lamaze and other labor coping skills, birth options, and alternatives, childbirth videos and a tour of the maternity unit. Plan to finish class within a month of your due date.

Breastfeeding Preparation Class

Description: This 2 1/2 hour class is taken before the birth of the baby. Includes getting ready for breastfeeding, getting started, milk production, avoiding early problems, and support systems available. Expectant fathers are encouraged to attend. Taught by a lactation consultant from Capital Health's Lactation Center.

A Fireside Chat on Women’s Health

Description: Join Dr. Randi Protter, medical director of Capital Health’s Center for Women’s Health, as she discusses the uses of hormones from adolescence to beyond menopause. Learn new methods and products, how contraceptives can be used to treat medical conditions (not as birth control), and menopausal issues that may or may not warrant hormone treatment. Preventing Heart Disease

Description: Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, cardiologist, will explain how plaque builds up in arteries and can lead to heart disease. Then our registered and holistic nurse, Maryann Cavallaro, will teach you how to prevent heart disease by eating vegetarian and organic foods.
