Capital Health Receives Magnet Re-Designation

April 20, 2006

This prestigious recognition is the result of continued hard work and dedication from Capital Health nurses and the Magnet Project Team.

It is with great privilege to announce that the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has recognized Capital Health’s exemplary nursing leadership and quality patient care by awarding its Magnet Recognition for Excellence in Nursing Service.

This achievement stands as a testament to the high caliber of all the employees who work at Capital Health day in and day out. To be formally recognized for the dedication and commitment we consistently show our patients is a remarkable triumph.

Being recognized first in 2002 and here again in 2006 is a very difficult achievement. Re-certification for Magnet status by the ANCC, the nation’s leading nursing credentialing organization, follows a very rigorous process that provides national recognition of excellent nursing care in acute care facilities. The revised accreditation process required Capital Health nurses and staff to establish excellence in 14 essential areas of nursing and patient care.

Magnet status is the highest level of recognition the ANCC can extend to a healthcare organization. As you may recall, Capital Health hosted two ANCC appraisers for a site visit on January 15-18. Their results found Capital Health to be the definition of excellence set forth by the Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators and outlined by the Congress of Nursing Practice of the American Nurses Association (ANA).

This continued achievement proves to the community that Capital Health is not only committed to excellence in providing the highest quality patient care services based on national standards, but also shows our understanding and respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity of patients, their families and healthcare providers.

This prestigious recognition is the result of continued hard work and dedication from Capital Health nurses and the Magnet Project Team led by Pat Cavanaugh, RN, MSN, VP, Patient Services, Gail Johnson, RN, MSN, EdD, Director of Professional Practice, and Carol Blauth, BS, MSN, RNC, BC, Manager of Clinical Education.

Again, congratulations to our nurses and staff who together made the Magnet Recognition.
