Quality, physician engagement, and growth strategies key priorities
Trenton, NJ - Capital Health announced today that Dr. Eugene J. McMahon and David K. Dafilou have joined the healthcare system as chief medical officer (CMO), and vice president and chief administrative officer of its clinically integrated network, respectively. McMahon joins Capital Health after most recently serving as president and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital in Illinois where he also served as the hospital’s CMO. Dafilou served as a principal with Premier Performance Partners.
“Dr. McMahon, an experienced healthcare leader, brings to Capital Health an impressive track record of success in driving medical staff engagement and developing physician leadership. He is skilled in leading growth strategies and impacting positive change, which will make him a critical member of our team as we continue to expand our organization and consider new opportunities,” said Capital Health President & CEO Al Maghazehe.
“We are pleased to have someone of David’s caliber join us to lead Capital Health into this exciting new venture that will benefit patients and providers and move us forward into the future of innovative care,” said Maghazehe. “In addition to his impressive professional experience with healthcare organizations, David brings the added benefit of living in our community, so he is keenly aware of its needs and our patient population.”
“Physician engagement and involvement is an important aspect of any growth strategy in healthcare,” said Dr. McMahon. “Capital Health has expanded its clinical services to provide very specialized and sophisticated care, and as the organization continues to meet the growing needs of its community, the alignment of the various clinical teams and healthcare professionals will be essential to its long-term success. I look forward to working with Al [Maghazehe], the medical staff, and the rest of the leadership team to provide high quality, effective, and efficient healthcare services to the people of our community.”
“As dynamic as healthcare is right now, Dr. McMahon’s extensive experience in the combined areas of business, medicine, and hospital operations makes him the right person at the right time for a position of great importance,” said Dr. Clinton H. Ogolo, president of the Capital Health Medical Staff.
Clinically integrated network
In contrast to the traditional model where private physicians practice in a hospital or hospitals without extensive alignment between the two, a clinically integrated network (CIN) is a partnership between physicians and the health system that is collectively committed to improving the quality and efficiency of care delivered to patients across the continuum of care. In the new healthcare landscape, the CIN allows for the alignment of health system and physician goals by providing a structure that enables them to work together to improve patient experience, to monitor and control utilization of healthcare services and assure quality of care, and to selectively choose network physicians who are likely to further these objectives.
“I look forward to working with my Capital Health colleagues and physicians to create a partnership that enables us to offer our patients and community the highest level of healthcare in a cost efficient manner,” said Dafilou.
