When undergoing surgical treatment for breast cancer, women now have more options than ever with the advancements of reconstructive surgery. At Capital Health we understand that the reconstruction process can be an important part of your care, and have adopted a policy requiring that all Capital Health breast cancer patients are educated about their options.
The team at the Capital Health Center for Comprehensive Breast Care includes specialists who provide various reconstruction options. Options can include the use of implants, reconstruction using your own tissues to recreate the breast mound (tissue-based reconstruction), or a combination of the two. Options can also include nipple reconstruction. Your consideration of reconstructive options should begin while you are preparing to undergo your surgery so that you can explore all of the options available to you.
Our plastic and reconstructive surgeons can work closely with the surgeon performing your breast surgery, and reconstruction can take place either at the same time as your mastectomy or it can be done later.
