Director, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program
Dr. Anil Balani is a board certified, fellowship trained gastroenterologist with special interests in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), colorectal cancer screening and small bowel capsule endoscopy.
He received his medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) – Stony Brook Medical School. He completed his internship and residency, as well as his fellowship training in gastroenterology, at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. Prior to joining Capital Health, Dr. Balani was in private practice in Cherry Hill, NJ. His professional memberships include the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Balani previously held academic appointments at SUNY – Stony Brook Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School—University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). He has been a primary investigator in various clinical research studies for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In addition to publishing numerous original research articles in various national and international journals, he has also been an invited speaker and faculty member at several local and national conferences.
Dr. Balani was featured in the Reader’s Choice Best Physicians and Best Physicians for Women (2012-2013, 2015) issues of South Jersey Magazine.
