For patients who require it, Capital Health Regional Medical Center includes a wing dedicated to our Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU). Our dedicated Neuro ICU is located just minutes from our helipad, emergency department, radiology department and neurosurgical operating rooms and neuro endovascular suite, so patients are able to move between the various areas they may need to visit during their stay quickly and efficiently.
Because of the unique needs of neurosurgical patients, our patients are cared for by neuro dedicated physician’s assistants and Magnet recognized nurses, specially trained to manage the care of our patients. Patients also benefit from a wide variety of team members including neurologists, anesthesiologists, neuro radiologists and other physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, speech pathologists, technicians, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, and other critical team members who provide specialized, focused care for our patients.
Both of our medical centers also offer neuro intermediate care units which care for post-critical (step-down) medical or surgical patients who require observation and care at a level less than intensive care patients, but more comprehensive than that required by general acute patients.
Capital Health also has dedicated stroke units and a dedicated stroke team around the clock available at both hospitals.
Capital Health Regional Medical Center is a designated New Jersey Comprehensive Stroke Center and our medical center in Hopewell Twp. is a Primary Stroke Center. The healthcare system has been certified as a stroke center by the Joint Commission, with Regional Medical Center being certified as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center. Regional Medical Center has also been recognized with a Gold Plus Achievement Award by the American Heart Association.
