Our colorectal surgery team offers the full spectrum of minimally invasive and traditional open surgical treatments for cancer and benign diseases that affect the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
Our colorectal surgeons work closely with referring physicians in gastroenterology, oncology, urology, and other areas of specialization. Dr. Ashlee Godshalk Ruggles provides surgical management of cancer of the colon, rectum, and anus; benign diseases such as diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis); and anorectal diseases, including abscesses/fistula, fissures, pilonidal disease, and hemorrhoids (using banding and other traditional surgical procedures). Dr. John Berry focuses on minimally invasive surgery, with a focus on sphincter-preserving techniques for advanced rectal cancer and enhanced recovery protocols that allow patients to experience shorter, safer hospital stays and less time away from work.
Colorectal surgery services are performed at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, where patients and referring physicians can find advanced treatment options without having to travel to large urban centers such as Philadelphia and New York City. By concentrating on minimally invasive approaches to surgery whenever possible, we are more likely to decrease operating times, recovery times, and the overall length of stay for patients.
Our office is located in the medical office building at Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell, giving patients convenient access to other specialists who may be involved in their care as well as the advanced imaging and diagnostic services that are available under the same roof. This arrangement also allows us to collaborate as needed with colleagues across disciplines to create personalized care plans that address each patient’s unique needs.
