Total Joint Replacement — Hips and Knees

Click here to find a list of orthopedic surgeons who specialize in total joint replacement of hips and knees.

Capital Health was the first hospital in Mercer County to offer total joint replacements beginning in 1976. Since that time, we have performed more total joint replacements than any other hospital in the area.

Now located at the new Marjorie G. Ernest Joint Replacement Center of Excellence at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, orthopaedic surgeons with medical privileges at Capital Health are performing a wide variety of advanced hip and knee replacement procedures. Approximately 350 joint replacements are expected to be performed this year alone at Capital Health.

Capital Health is the only area hospital performing anterior approaches to total hip replacement. Through this minimally invasive approach, our surgeons are able to maximize the preservation of muscle tissue around the hip using an approach to reach the hip joint from the front of the body instead of the back with a very small incision. Click here to read more about this new approach to total hip replacement available at Capital Health.

Capital Health’s orthopaedic-trained nurses and staff also offer classes for those who are preparing to have hip or knee replacement surgery in the near future. Classes for patients who are having total knee or hip replacement surgery are available every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Care partners are welcome to attend as well. Both classes are held at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell in the 4th Floor Mercer Tower Conference Room, adjacent to the Marjorie G. Ernest Center Joint Replacement Center of Excellence. Registration is not required and classes are conveniently scheduled so you can do it while you are here for your pre-admission testing.

Our program is dedicated to providing you the best possible outcome for total joint replacement and getting you back on your feet and returning to the activities you enjoy.
