Our program builds on the knowledge learned in pre-licensure education to help nurses become leaders during the first year of practice. Once hired into the program, nurse residents will:
- Rotate into the medical/surgical/telemetry units for four weeks at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell and Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
- Participate in active shadowing during rotational period.
- Be actively involved in determining unit placement.
Nurse residents are not guaranteed certain shifts or units unless they are hired directly into a specific unit, such as the Emergency Department.
- All new hires have an individualized calendar that reflects their interests.
- The likelihood of being hired on a specialty unit depends on open positions that are available. Specialty units include Maternal Child Health, Perioperative Services, Critical Care, Mental Health, and Dialysis.
- After a nurse resident is placed on a unit, they receive additional orientation and a dedicated preceptor.
