Director, Institute for Urban Care
As director of the Capital Health Institute for Urban Care (IUC), Ana Maria Catanzaro works closely with the executive director and vice president of Community Health and Transformation to provide leadership, strategic direction, management, and support for all departments of the IUC. Ana prioritizes organizational goals, strategies, and new initiatives to advance the health and well-being of Trenton residents. She also promotes development of new partnerships, seeks new funding opportunities, and leads opportunities for academic and scholarly submissions highlighting the work of Capital Health, the IUC, and partner organizations.
Ana earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and her Master of Science in Nursing degree (with a concentration in public health nursing) from LaSalle University, and a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary (with a concentration in moral theology), both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received her doctoral degree from the School of Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she focused on spirituality and health care ethics. Ana also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship and a Master of Health Science degree in clinical research (with a concentration in biostatistics) at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Before joining Capital Health, Ana was associate dean for Graduate Nursing Programs and interim dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions at Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey; Master of Science in Nursing program chair and dean at Holy Family University School of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and associate professor and Independence Foundation chair/director of Public Health Programs at LaSalle University in Philadelphia. Prior to her academic nursing career, Ana’s extensive public health experience includes roles such as school nurse, advocate for children with special needs, and case manager for homeless individuals with mental illness. In addition to her public health nursing experience, Ana’s clinical nursing experience includes medical/surgical nursing, critical care nursing, and maternal-child nursing. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, the New Jersey State Nurses Association, and is an accreditation site visitor for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Ana is bilingual with native fluency in Spanish.
